Meet the New JISD Superintendent-
Dr. Joe Wardell:
The wait is finally over. In open session at a special board meeting on March 3rd, the JISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to officially hire lone finalist Dr. Joe Wardell as the new JISD Superintendent. Dr. Wardell and his wife Tricia were present at the meeting and graciously spent time afterward meeting district administrators, staff, and media representatives.
The Wardell’s are currently house hunting in Jacksonville and plan to move here as soon as they find a suitable place to purchase.
Dr. Wardell will officially assume his duties as superintendent on March 23rd, but will be present at the monthly administrator meeting on March 11, to help get things underway by sharing some of his vision for the district and getting input from administrative staff.
Mr. Bird's retirement will be effective as of June 1. In the interim, he will be working closely with Dr. Wardell, doing everything possible to help the transition in district leadership to go as smoothly as possible.
Dr. Wardell has expressed that he shares our sense of excitement about his new position at JISD and that he is always happy to talk to staff and community members to hear their concerns, opinions, and insights.
Plan now to attend the official welcome reception for Dr. Wardell on April 6, 4:00-6:00 p.m., at the Norman Activity Center. The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and JEDCO are joining with JISD to host this event.
