JHS Band Medalists
At UIL State Competition
May 2008

Jacksonville High School Band students won ten medals at the University Interscholastic Leagues Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest recently held at the University of Texas in Austin. In order to qualify for TSSEC, students must have made a first division rating at the UIL regional competition held in February. It is a real honor. said Mike Bullock, band director. Just to qualify for state takes an enormous amount of time and work. They have to play their solo by memory and it must be of the most difficult level. All of the preparation was outside the school day. These band students have achieved a great honor, and Im proud of them.
TSSEC is attended by qualifiers from all areas of Texas including El Paso, Brownsville, Amarillo, Houston and Dallas. It is held each Memorial Day weekend at the University of Texas campus in Austin.
